Are You Really Drinking a Beer?

Are you really drinking a beer? I thought you were a wellness guy!

Yes, it’s true…I don’t drink alcohol very often and am not advocating drinking – rather making a point about adding balance into your trip (that’s where the Balance comes into my brand).

Traveling can be quite stressful (especially business travel), so asking you to consider making the effort to get out and see the sights, eat the local food, and yes, even try the local beverages.

Belgium is well known for its beer and chocolate and it is quite remarkable.

What local delicacies (food, drink, other) have you tried and recommend for the world travelers out there?

Is 5G Hazardous to Your Health?

5G is the latest iteration of the wireless cellular network and promises amazing connection possibilities.

However, there are MANY concerns about the impact on our health. This article presents an objective perspective on the debate.

My belief is that cellphones, and all of the ElectroMagnetic Fields (EMFs) are like cigarettes in the 1960s – back then we believed cigarettes were probably not good for our health, but people weren’t dying. Today we know better.

My concern is that it will take many years to understand the negative health implications of all these EMFs on our body.

5G promises lightning-fast speeds and the ability to power new technologies like self-driving cars and advanced augmented and virtual reality experiences. But an undercurrent to all of the things we can do with 5G is concern about what 5G can do to us.

Mobile carriers throughout the world are racing to deploy this fifth generation of cellular technology. And the biggest cellphone makers are also readying their 5G handsets. President Donald Trump has made it clear that the US must not fall behind other nations, like China, in the effort to develop and roll out the technology.

But not everyone believes the US should be pushing full steam ahead.

There are concerns that the very high-frequency spectrum known as millimeter wavelengths used in early deployments to make 5G a reality could pose adverse health effects for the public.

Sleeping with Mirrors

Do you have trouble sleeping in hotel rooms?

There are many factors that can contribute to this, but one of the biggest reasons is that your nervous system is on “high alert” because it’s in a new place (especially that first night).

My best sleep tips involve making your hotel room as homey as you possibly can and appealing to all of your senses in the process, using familiar: smells (e.g. essential oils), sights (e.g. pictures), sounds (e.g. white noise or calming music) and feels (some people bring their own bed sheets).

In this video, I talk about one of the more unique challenges in certain hotel rooms that involves the placement of mirrors. I know this one might seem a bit odd, but give it a try.

Take Time to Slow Down During Your Travels

What is the biggest health challenge that we face today (especially when traveling)?

In this video I’m talking about a reminder that we all need in today’s very fast paced business climate.

Did you know that stress accounts for more than 92% of most chronic health conditions?

While we may be aware that we are stressed – what are some things you can do to slow down and not miss the beautiful moments of this journey that you are on?

The first step is to notice what is happening and consciously make the effort to just BE – something very difficult for the overachievers out there (ask me how I know).

5 Tips to Help Block Electromagnetic Radiation

While technology today can be incredibly convenient and efficient, there is a price we pay in terms of our health.

We may be familiar with the unhealthy aspects of tech neck on our posture (head bent down reading phone) or the negative emotional consequences of social media (comparing our lives to other people’s highlight reels) – but are you aware of the hidden health dangers in the form of “ElectroSmog”?

You may not be able to hear them or see them, but energy, frequencies, sounds and vibrations are all-around you, and they can have a profound impact on your health. Most people don’t want to believe that electromagnetic frequencies are problematic because electricity and electric wireless devices are so convenient.

Unfortunately, chronic and heavy exposure to wireless radiation can have severe repercussions on your health. Inside every cell in your body are mitochondria — the powerhouses of the cell — and your mitochondria are adversely affected by EMFs, resulting in mitochondrial and cellular dysfunction. Specifically, your heart and brain are the most susceptible to EMF damage.

It’s unlikely that you’ll throw away your cellphone or get rid of your wireless internet at home. So how can you protect yourself from EMFs? Here are five ways to help reduce your exposure and reduce the health damages that EMFs can have on your body:

Replace wireless with wired devices
If you’re using a wireless keyboard, headset or mouse, consider swapping it for a wired version.

Keep EMF sources at a distance
If you have a Wi-Fi router in your home, place it away from where people spend the most time. If you use a microwave, never stand in front of it while it’s operating. Placing distance between yourself and EMF sources can help reduce exposure.

Break bad cellphone habits
If you tend to keep your cellphone in your pocket, it’s time to break the habit. Keep it at a distance and turn the ringer volume up if you’re worried about missing calls. Use the speakerphone option when talking on your cellphone, to avoid putting your phone up to your head. Whenever possible, put your cellphone in airplane mode to help reduce cellphone radiation.

Disable wireless functions
When turned on, wireless devices emit a Wi-Fi signal. Disabling wireless devices such as routers, printers, tablets and laptops can help reduce your exposure to EMFs. Only turn on the Wi-Fi function when necessary.

Prioritize sleeping areas
You aren’t going to use wireless devices while you’re sleeping, so bed time is the perfect time to disable these devices. If you have a Wi-Fi router, turn it off before you go to bed. Remove all unnecessary wireless devices from your bedroom or deactivate their Wi-Fi feature. Remember: your cellphone alarm clock will still work when it’s in airplane mode.

The Hidden Costs of Business Travel

In this video I discuss the foundational wellness challenge of all travel, and it shares the same cause as over 90% of all chronic health issues!

Many of us that travel for business are aware of the health challenges that can occur – some more than others.

Things like sleeplessness, getting sick, weight gain, jet lag and digestive challenges, to name a few.

While I do hear from some travelers that they have not run into these obstacles – as with most things in life: “It’s just not a problem unless it happens to you.”

But, if and when it does – it can have a huge impact on your trip – and your business!

Did you know that business travelers lose an average of 6.9 hours of productivity due to stress, and that the financial cost amounts to $662 per trip?*

Is Skipping Breakfast Dangerous to Your Health?

Honored to be invited for 7 different radio interviews on Fox News to discuss the importance of eating breakfast per the article below!

While some consider breakfast the most important meal of the day, what about the latest trend with intermittent fasting?

…and what are the implications of eating breakfast when traveling?

Listen to one of these radio interviews to learn more.

Did you have breakfast this morning? A new study highlights the importance of eating breakfast every day.

The risk of heart-related death increases dramatically for people who don’t eat in the morning, according to the new research. Doctors say it’s an issue, because over the past 50 years, the number of people who skip breakfast has been increasing, especially among younger people.

Whether it’s cereal or eggs, eating breakfast could save your life. The new research that tracked 6,500 Americans for about 20 years found people who routinely skip breakfast had an 87% higher risk of cardiovascular-related death compared to those who ate breakfast every day.

Not eating a morning meal is also linked to an increased risk of obesity, heart disease and Type 2 diabetes.

“What they found, was that the more people skipped breakfast the more days a week, the higher their risk of Type 2 diabetes,” wellness expert Dr. Michael Roizen said.

Researchers found that just one day of skipping breakfast was associated with a 6% increased risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.

The study in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology says the odds for a stroke were especially elevated if people always skipped breakfast. In terms of morning selections, experts say you should load up.

People should think of breakfast as the new dinner — the meal with the most calories, in order to avoid a spike in blood sugar later in the day.

“Eat only when the sun is out or when the sun is supposed to be out,” Roizen said. “Eat more early, eat less later, and don’t stereotype food. You can eat dinner food for breakfast.”

Doctors say part of the problem linked to skipping breakfast is that people tend to get hungrier later in the day, which might lead to overeating. Researchers say people who skip breakfast also tend to have more unhealthy habits and are more likely to smoke, drink and be physically inactive.

Dehydration When Traveling

Dehydration is one of the biggest challenges that we face when traveling!

We are chronically dehydrated when we DON’T travel – getting on a plane just makes it worse.

Water is needed for almost every biochemical reaction in your body, and if you don’t have enough, your body will compensate with whatever it can (other liquids) which may not leave you feeling your best.

I know that some people are just not fans of drinking water, so one option that I talk about in this video is adding a powdered supplement to your water to change the taste.

I use a whole food based supplement that adds additional magnesium (among other phytonutrients), a mineral that is typically deficient in our body.

Adding minerals helps promote the electrical conductivity needed for healthy nerve function among other signaling in your body to help you to feel your best.

Remember, drink before, during (target 8oz per hour of flying) and after your flight.

Healthy Events

I am so excited to see the trend toward better Wellness at events!

I remember the day (not so long ago) when just getting filtered water at an event was quite a challenge – now most venues offer this in the form of 5 gallon water towers.

Take a look at this video that shows an example of some of the awesome/healthy food provided for attendees at the ACTE2019 conference where I recently spoke.

They did a simply fabulous job of providing a wonderful array of healthy food choices for meals and breaks…which goes a long way toward helping attendees stay focused and get the benefits of this event!
